Misc tweets from priv + supplementary rambles abt venture's status in the franchise & fandom (these arent character analyses unfortunately its more like my frustration w the venture hate i see on twitter & my criticizm toward blizzard)

Re: "venture wasnt designed for skins" argument or sth:

^Also my additional thoughts related to "venture wasnt designed for skins": what does it mean for a character to be designed for skins? Were any of the ow1 characters "designed for skins" or were they designed in an attempt to push the characterization and storylines they had planned for these characters? Should blizzard even be making characters that are "designed for skins"?

I understand that blizz wants to make money but in my opinion designing a character specifically for the purpose of the ease of making marketable skins is a rather lazy and ingenuine approach to character design. If that's what blizz wants to do they should just make a dress up doll game or something, idk. If this franchise wants to act like it has a plot and dynamic characters, blizz need to allow its team to design characters with that in mind and not with the primary intent of selling skins.

What i also mean is this "character was designed for the skins" approach didnt seem to be as present in their old business model for ow1, and I & others are frustrated that theyve moved toward this approach more and more for ow2. Yes they have their reasons for this w the f2p business model in ow2 (or whatever, i dont play so i dont fully understand). I personally think these reasons are not sufficient and if blizz wants to have any sort of integrity with their franchise they ought to take a more earnest approach to how they design and release characters/skins.

(Also this is not a criticism of ppl who like juno or kiriko or whoever, im criticizing blizzard and their business choices/current approach to character design; and to some degree, im criticizing people who support blizzard's business choices/current approach to character design.)

(Also i like skins!!!!!!! A lot!!!!!!!!!!! I just think they should be secondary to the actual canon character design.........)

I actually have a rough standee sketch for them, mayb ill finish it sometime. Forgot abt adding them to the bunny set too... was think abt making a maid/butler design for them as well but idk yet. Idk im not great at drawing them & i dont think the hate they get is the majority but i still feel bad a trans character gets this kind of hate & it'd be nice to get some positive energy out there. Hello! I followed u an eon ago on a different account, and am so excited to see ur art come up on my feed again. Idk if this is the best place to send this; Id feel awkward sending a whole email for this and I dont have a twitter anymore (dumpster fire.) i love all ur designs, but I keep coming back to ur pokemon ones. I’m so fond of them. It makes me want to experiment w body horror art.

I know ppl have sent u mean-spirited asks in the past abt them. I just want to say: I went thru ur old art and said a variation of “aww, a cutie!” Or “oh, poor babyyy :(“ in the occasion that their breeding has created things like chronic pain. At no point was I thinking. Idk, they were ugly or mean (to the pokemon franchise)? To me, ppl like that just have bad taste 🤷🏽‍♀️

Haha, I still find a lot of them pretty cute, too. There's some good design shapes and ideas in some of those older pieces that maybe I can recycle and refine or develop into something new someday.

I definitely would like to share more original work; I'm going through a sort of transitional phase with my art at the moment, so there isn't much to share that I legitimately feel like posting. I can, however, share this lineup of vehicular characters that were sketched up some weeks ago for Funky Town:

I've always had a general appreciation for mechanical shapes and design; I've learned that that general appreciation runs deeper than anticipated, so hard surface focused / adjacent design has been where my mind has been at recently.

I finished the Natlan archon quest a couple days ago and wanted to share my thoughts + my Capitano art dump/ screenshot sketches cause he’s so fun to draw and literally my favorite character rn alongside bill lol :>>

Anyways, I even tried making my own version of what Capitano might look like w/o his mask even though I think he looks amazing with it on (I’m aware the scars may not look as accurate as they should but it was a trial and error for me so please don’t hate too much :,)

I HOPE CAPITANO IS PLAYABLE I kept looking at those random videos online and everyone is saying he won’t be playable in Natlan but Columbina will or something around that 😐 honestly I’m not that interested in comunbina which is ironic because I loved drawing biblical angels and she kinda is one but she hasn’t really interested me yet so im really hoping Capitano is playable within Natlan

The friendship between Mualani and Kachina is amazing and so wholesome :))

I loved Mavuika’s room with all those items in it reminds me of me with my random items I collect but I got so sad when she had to use them as fuel 😭 cause some of the stuff was so damn pretty. Does that mean she also burned the picture of her family 😦

Mega awesome HRE and Chibitalia art dump cause i’m on that high rn

These doodles are on my old AU I tried to make a game with friends for a gamejam but had to drop out but still forever haunt my mind begging to be made. I'm still figuring out a lot of the plot and ideas for the story i guess and playing with ideas and concepts of the world and characters. Mainly Death and Earth personified, since they're original creations ya know, especially Death cause they're kinda the antagonist. TLDR Whole plot of the story is that HRE is dying and Death was supposed to make it comfortable for him for giving peace of mind but they were sick and tired of it and kinda punished him for being a greedy power hungry little shit.

In these doodles they're supposed to be dancing together in a ballroom, the jig is up and Death is opening up to HRE and probably giving exposition, probably talk about how they were wrong to do that to HRE, why they lashed out and asking if he wants to do something before he takes his life for good. I have a few old doodles where I designed the dress and stuff, the scene was also drafted to still be in the dream world/ HRE unknowingly thinking this is reality so this was going to be his final moment before the big reveal and Death snapping. Was also gonna be a mini game maybe where you had to do a memory game to remember the steps

These are for when HRE finally discovers everything in the game/story was all just this dream world and he never got that closer with Italy or his brother and where Death gets frustrated and just has a whole rant about their true feelings about humans and the personified countries. The scythe is so shit im sorry. The dream world throughout the game keeps getting flooded with this black goo, which in reality is just this limbo space before a soul makes it to the afterlife, as Death has a harder and harder time keeping the world together and/or just to fuck with HRE and make him paranoid

Here is a alternative version where Death takes off the disguise, probably doing the same thing as the last one but ya know just a bit different. In my note I drabble the idea that the disguises are made with the help of Earth since death ya know kinda kills shit so they can't really create stuff, in this scene I also had a idea where (kinda gorey sorry) they even pull off the skin and hair to reveal their true skeleton form to HRE.

These were just fun doodles, played around with sketching with highlighter and going over in pen which was super fun. I also just wanted to draw Chibitalia, cause idk he's silly. These were kinda just warmups and experiments cause art block has been hitting like a TRUCK.

I hope one day I can still bring this idea to game form, maybe blow the dust off RPG maker or try to get a team together again to work on it but who knows. IN ANOTHERR LIFFEEEE I WOULD BE YOUR GIIRRRRLLLLLL

yes!! i have a bunch of aus im working on though im assuming u mean cotl specific (the others are undertale/deltarune and homestuck related if theres any interest)

the main one im working on right now is fates twine, (which ill explain in more detail in a second) but i have two others. a pirate esque essentially dnd campaign au story which ive named tears in a bottle. im still figuring out designs for that one but nari is a critter the size of the lambs hand so thats funny. its called tears in a bottle cuz the lamb and the others in the pirate crew go to raid a lost city, and the statue in the middle of said city (which is of shamura. the bishops are all archfey in this au so theyre cool) is weeping golden tears into a bottle which contains nari. only the lamb can see these god tears and nari.

i also have ideas for a madoka magica x cotl au but i have no designs and not enough ideas to talk about it currently.

but then theres fates twine. fates twine ("fates twine binds the hearts of you and i" is the full name, fates twine is my shorthand) is a prequel au which starts when the old gods are still around, and out of the bishops only shamura has their crown. it explores what would happen if the lamb (who is named mara) found the red crown before nari could, and fought against their ascension. they actually meet nari when hes still a mortal because of this and they become friends. shenanigans ensue. (narinders name as a mortal here is paean. i thought it would be cool to link him to the demon he always becomes in game) i have a bunch planned and have like 4,000 words worth of scenes written for it. but they're all for different parts of the fic so it's not currently postable. the closest image i have for mara around the time they find the crown is this little sketch for a scene i made

they dont typically wear the crown they usually have it as a ring on their finger to hide they have it but for that scene they do.

this is a bit of an older design and artstyle but this is mara when theyre a bit older. this is. the only coloured drawing i have of them rn but im gonna work on more soon.

this is their current design at that age. the other lamb there is omen, their little sister. i have a whole page of doodles of her that im gonna post tomorrow probably. shes one of my favourite fates twine characters i love her sm lolol

and these are sketches of mara post them becoming a cult leader!! so yeah nari does still get the crown and ascend instead of them eventually and they become the last lamb and all that but its about the interesting things that them being the true god of death causes. so yeah. you also get one (1) paragraph draft snippet of the first chapter bc im feeling silly

anyway bc im fully into my periodic undignified nightly word vomit marathon let me list things im interested in and see if i can figure out smth abt myself thru it okay i really want to:

Photography. I like photographing things especially wildlife and birds. i actually think im rlly decent in taking pictures of inanimate things BUT i cannot take a picture of someone for the life of me i canr master people’s angles. Since im studyinf architecture i think wildlife and architectural photography are really cool, especially random interesting things you may take pics of.

If i get more into this i think i can actually be a rlly good photographer but again consistency lol, which i lack.

guitar is becoming rlly attractive to me. when beirut started getting struck on the daily i learnt li beirut on the piano and i was actually quite decent you know? but i ditched it if i hadnt id be playing it rlly well right now but i also discovered it’s actually a piece composed by a Spaniard during the spanish civil war about some gardens there and idk but it’s such a beautiful piece to me and it reinforces my belief that Mediterraneans share the exact same culture and soul but in different frequencies i cant explain it

i like drawing but ironically enough for an architecture student sketching more organic shapes is easier for me than just doing straight lines and perspective. I hate drawing in perspective and i rlly love the creativity that comes with painting and animation, even landscapes sound better to me. I dont draw or sketch daily but maybe I should start doing so bc my drawing is stuck halfway between good and bad and i feel consistency would do me a whole lot of good. I have potential and drew a lot as a kid, and i want to get into painting and charcoal mediums too

im immersing myself in Spanish bit by bit. I feel in love with it and listening to music in spanish has rlly helped me, as did random translations thru google extensions. I will say that knowledge of etymologically latin words in english does help though. But again im not consistent. I’m interested in in Japanese and Russian, but im starting to warm up to french and german (Dark converted me). I tried to learn Hebrew for a year and I can pretty much understand from 1/8 to 1/4 of any written thing depending on the context but the only material abt me to read there is genocidal mania and i have enough of it in English so i just stopped lmao maybe i should return to it. Im not interested in communicaring w it just understanding so i think a year of learning would be enough

Animation sounds extremely interesting, id love ro dabble in it in the future. Graphic design is also sort of appealing especially in the architectural field and presentation

Tatreez requires a high attention span which doesn’t sound ideal for me but i may give it a shot in the future somebody ought to preserve our traditions

Horse-riding 😍😍😍 I just feel like riding a horse and feeling the wind blowing thru my hair would be a healing experience. When i get strong enough in the gym (and get my drivers licence 🥲) i will try it. But rn i have zero core strength and a horse could jump and send me flying into the air

Finally writing and character desigm. I mainly want to learn to draw so i can visualise my own characters but the only thing im actually consistently good at is character building and development.

GRRRRR I HAD A WHOLE POST TYPED UP AND TUNGL DELETED IT ON ME. anyway im working out some stuff for the warframe au... ive only really come up with ideas for the talon characters rn but ive got 3/6 with like. the beginnings of solid designs? but im happy with em so far!

we gooooot kuva lich reaper... honestly like. at least int he preliminary stages of sketching it out, there is like. BARELY any change lool he slots into the whole grineer aesthetic extremely well it turns out. the biggest thing is ofc the kuva well on the chest and i am planning on adding some armor and such to really hammer it home

aaaand lich moira also! we got that... metal..eye thing? but it’s just a biiiig patch of clone-rot now, amd also the tubes are full of kuva because of course they are. very excited to get more in depth on this one, i think theres some reeaalllyyyy fun potential here, both from a design AND a character standpoint. giving tyl regor a run for his goddamn money in the grineer genetics department

and of course, predictable as i am, thus far sigma needs the most work, being an amalgam there is a LOT that’s gotta happen here. can’t help myself, i really love playing with the shapes of sentients...... most of the ingame amalgams have the sentient fused on their head which, while it DOES look Very Neat, is less than ideal for the subject, i’d guess. so im playing with the bulk of the sentient being on the back, with the core hovering over the chest and the rest just being collateral damage... i imagine the legs definitely can still be walked on, but it’s just. hard to balance. its like putting a deer on ice.

🎨 OOH um sketching is my fav part but my fatal flaw is using bigger brushes 4 sketching and then the like. initial image gets lost as i line it im trying to work on that </3 from there it depends !! sometimes line sometimes dont coloring my personal hell but i tend 2 use colors from other drawings i already did and then so so so much editing. occasionally ill put the whole thing through an image resizer bc i tend to go REALLY small and it fucks me up

this is probably about rwby ocs, which i have considered creating, but ive never gotten very far. definitely partially because red riding hood and snow white wouldve been my top choices for an allusion lmao

i have a couple very loose conceptual ocs to fill out the beacon academy class, but im not in love with any of them, nor do I have any real designs for them

Do you have any tips on how to start a webcomic? I've been wanting to start one of my own but im not sure how

well I’m not an excellent person to ask about this bc i have an absolutely atrocious track record with comics BUT I can offer some of my knowledge. I went through all this so you dont have to:

- its ok to drop projects. straight up. if you started something and you didnt enjoy it or just stopped caring its ok to drop it. the longer you try to wring out content the more youll hate it. i cant count the number of comics and ideas in general that I started and then dropped or never saw the light of day. it was still a learning experience so its not wasted time or anything!

- have the entire story planned out for the love of god or at the very least a start and an end that you can work towards if all else fails. i know some people brag about being able to bullshit stories and plots n whatnot but it is absolutely not worth it bc unless you are some sort of literary genius it’ll just end up reading disjointed

- you dont need ref sheets/design sheets/prop sheets/ whatever to start ur comic. as long as you have the main characters designs its fine. You can have the worlds shittiest sketch for it and that would be ok like I started comic work when my design sheet looked like this (and I only did this so i had a vague reference for the clothes). they almost dont even have hands

- if you’re unsure of how you want your comic to look or how you want to work on it, dont just jump on it bare ass. take some time to do a couple page tests or short 2-5 page comics so you can figure out how much effort youre willing to put into it so that it’s not soul rending. comics take a LOT OF TIME and A LOT OF EFFORT. big comics like the one I started are extremely long term, so be aware that youre signing up for that!  

- you gotta be your own biggest fan. if you dont love what you do you’re just gonna have a bad time :’) 

- tbh just, start it. it sounds wack I know but you’re probably never going to feel ready for it. hell im a whole bunch of pages in rn (i work months ahead of the public pages) and I still feel underqualified as fuque

So let me explain!! :p

Top ref, mutant;

Top ref is zibs freaky zim mutation experiement!!! the mutant is very very huge and stuff and is zibs guard dog being the most “easily commanded” zim in the whole dibvoid universe thing! to reassure of this, theres that blue mind control pak that connects directly to the brain and interferes with the one on the mutant’s butt. the pak on the butt has similarly same functions as a normal pak, but the mutant mainly uses the arms within to get around much faster and easier since the mutant weighs quite a bit. the mutant can also vocally communicate despite not being very smart and stuff. hes also always hungry, typically zib feeds him a..... special kinda meal

Middle ref, dagger!zim (DZ for short!!);

DZ is one of the many, many zimz kindapped by zib. but being a zim who comes from the irken race (at least in his universe) of loyalty through battle, after being defeated by zib in a one on one battle, he became one of the zimz to work under zib. currently tho he is owned by PD (police!dib aka pilot!dib) since hes one of the most agile and best fighters among most of the zimz currently in the dibvoid. (no zim is really allowed to roam in the dibvoid unless owned by a dib) His attitude toward PD is very respectable towards him. PD and DZ had a little one on one and PD rightfully defeated DZ fair and square. DZ works with PD to capture (mainly kill) any dibs or zims out of line when ordered by zib or any other dib if a zim or dib is a problem. DZ’s irken biology is dratically different from most zims to where his pak is on his neck and a smaller size, hes built more agile, his antennae can come off to unsheath blades. the downside to this is that he has a high chance of bleeding. bleeding doesnt damage him, tho it causes pain and blood is annoying when it runs down your face during a battle/fight. he wears heels to feel taller and superior to zims in the dibvoid and has a cape to wear, but with time being in the dibvoid it got damaged and fixed by PD

Bottom ref, pilot!dib/police!dib (PD for short!);

the scariest hunter youll ever meet in the dibvoid. he garnered attention from other dib and zims for being openly agressive, violent and creepy to the others (especially with his teeth and unusual twitchiness) he obsesses over any interestin zim or dibs in the dibvoid, he will occcassionally stalk them and may decide to fight them if they seem like a good fighting oponent. otherwise he would just shake out any information he can from them to hunt down any rebel groups (he use to be apart of one till he was put into his place) he spends time in the bar (even tho hes just 19 the idiot) and will get word through there. He is a really good fighter with his hand-like gun and uses it to help get around and hunt down zim andddibs. his kill count is certainly higher than his “bar fights won’ count. his end of his trench coat is damaged from accidentally shooting lasers than propelling air at take off sometimes. he shoots around at high speeds using his hand gun almost like a propeller by hopping on it (as seen in the the ref) he’ll use it to call zib only in really dire situations since he believe s he can handle any situation on his own, picking up a big ego from DZ. towards DZ, he sees him more of a partner than a zim he owns (tho it being not allowed to befriend zims at all, he treats DZ badly in public when he would def risk his own life for DZ in any situation). he feels this way mainly cuz DZ is a much more different zim (even tho DZ is still a loud, self-centered zim) since DZ openly shows admiration and respect, especially when PD defeats an oponent in a fight. other relations PD has is with concept!dib/science!dib (called SD for short) SD and PD use to be very close at one point in the past. PD and zib only treat each other as rivals trying to one up each other, even if PD’s fallen flat every time (it hurts even more since zib is much younger than he is) PD is snarky with the irken hybrid and would love to dissect him and stalks the half irken whenever he can before being spotted by one of Zib’s many lackeys. tho despite that all, zib let’s him run around and do what he needs or wants. zib is creeped out by PD and has some type of fear of him.

so that’s about it!! some summaries ti help for a better undeestanding! these r sketched concepts for le comic and may be edited/changed over time, especially mutant zim for a cooler design. qvq ill do a zib concept soon, i try not to deviate fromm their original looks too much so they’re definable but i edit sone things to make them cooler or what may fit the plot nicely! giving PD some neat upgrades really makes him cooler. tho with the mutant zim and DZ are original 100% (at least i hope, accidentally copying soneone is my biggest fear) but yeh! these characters are mostly ones with close relations to zib and the only ones ive has visual thoughts for. (I’ll def make more zim and dibs 100%. I yet to make refs for the main cast!!) im sorry for the length of it all but i promise i’ll make simpler layouts one day! rn this is just dump and brainstorming qoq

me whole life babieeee the earliest thing i remember drawing is some dinosaurs inspired by the land before time uh. they were camping, they had tents. i drew it on the inside of the cover of a picture book. i still have it,

used to be like 540x700 px bc tumblr post size but now its like idk 2000x3000 px bc whatever man. i actually don't remember what i usually go for that was a guess

yea i do warmup sketches but usually it’s just drawing whatever comes to mind until i feel sufficiently warmed up to try the idea i had in mind beforehand so that idea doesnt look shitty. i dont do any of those like “draw a curvy line ten times” or whatever

varies between right and left depending on the day but usually both are easier than front

📚 How many layers do you typically use?

one for sketch, one or two for lineart, like 4 or 5 for color, one-ish for bg, and then whatever extra effects i wanna add on top, so that all comes out to like... 8-10 layers i guess. idk i dont feel like opening clip studio to check

it depends on my mood like if im deep deep deep in a fandom then all i’ll want to draw is that fandom but if im not really into anything in particular atm then i’ll usually default back to my ocs unless inspiration for smth else strikes... so yea i like to do both basically
